Some small warts respond well after one appointment, while larger, deeper or long-standing warts may need further treatment. The location of the wart, its thickness and how your body responds can all affect the overall timeframe.

Does a Wart Disappear Immediately After Treatment?
No. Although the wart is treated during the appointment, it does not normally vanish immediately.
Freezing damages the unwanted wart tissue. Your body then begins the natural process of breaking down and removing that tissue.
The treated area may initially look white before becoming red or slightly swollen. A blister, crust or small scab may develop as the skin begins to heal.
Over the following days and weeks, the treated tissue should gradually dry out and lift away.
It can take a few weeks for the full effect of freezing treatment to become clear. Larger or more persistent warts may take longer.

A Typical Wart Removal Timeline
Every person heals differently, but the following gives you a general idea of what may happen.
During the appointment
The wart is assessed and treated with a controlled freezing application. You may experience a cold, stinging or tingling sensation.
During the first 24 hours
The area may feel tender and can become red or slightly swollen. Some people develop a small blister.
During the first week
The wart may become darker, drier or form a crust. This is part of the skin’s response to treatment.
During the following few weeks
The treated tissue should gradually shrink or lift away as the skin heals underneath.
After approximately four weeks
The result will be assessed. If part of the wart remains, another treatment may be recommended.
This timeline is only a guide. Your practitioner will explain what is likely in your individual case.
Will One Treatment Be Enough?
It is not always possible to promise that a wart will disappear after one treatment.
Some smaller warts may respond well to a single session. Other warts can be more stubborn, especially when they:
- are particularly large or thick
- have been present for a long time
- are located on an area exposed to pressure or friction
- occur in a cluster
- have returned after previous treatment
- extend more deeply into the skin
Warts are caused by a viral infection affecting the outer layer of the skin.

Does Wart Removal Hurt?
One of the questions we’re asked most often is whether CryoPen hurts. Most clients tell us afterwards it was far more comfortable than they expected.
CryoPen treatment is generally quick, but it may feel uncomfortable.
People often describe the sensation as:
- very cold
- stinging
- tingling
- similar to a brief sharp pinch
The level of discomfort depends on the wart’s size, depth and location, as well as your individual sensitivity.
The area may remain tender for a short time afterwards. Your practitioner will explain what reactions are expected and how to look after the skin.
What Will the Skin Look Like Afterwards?
The immediate appearance of the skin can vary.
You may notice:
- redness
- mild swelling
- tenderness
- temporary whitening
- a small blister
- darkening of the treated tissue
- crusting or scabbing
These changes are usually part of the normal healing process.
Avoid picking, scratching or pulling at the treated area. Allowing it to heal naturally can help reduce irritation and the risk of infection or scarring.
What surprises most people?
It’s rarely the treatment that takes the longest—it’s waiting for the skin to complete its natural healing process. Although CryoPen freezes the wart in seconds, your body still needs time to remove the treated tissue.
Can I Return to Work After Treatment?
Most people can continue with their usual day after a CryoPen appointment.
There is generally no lengthy recovery period, although the area may feel sensitive. Whether it affects your normal routine will depend on where the wart is located and the type of work or activity you do.
For example, a wart treated on a part of the foot that bears weight may feel more noticeable than one on the hand or arm.
Your practitioner will give you aftercare information suited to the area treated.
Can I Shower After Wart Removal?
Follow the aftercare instructions given by your practitioner.
In general, the area should be kept clean and treated gently. If it becomes wet, avoid rubbing it and carefully pat it dry with a clean towel.
Do not apply perfumed skincare products, harsh exfoliants or unapproved wart treatments to the area while it is healing.
Should I Pop a Blister?
A blister can sometimes form following freezing treatment.
Do not deliberately pop, pierce or remove it yourself. The skin over the blister helps protect the healing area underneath.
Contact your treatment provider or seek medical advice if the blister becomes unusually large, increasingly painful, hot, very red or begins producing pus.
Can a Wart Come Back After Removal?
A wart can return after treatment.
CryoPen treats the visible wart tissue, but warts are caused by the human papillomavirus, commonly known as HPV. The virus can sometimes remain in nearby skin even after the visible growth has cleared.
Avoid scratching or picking the wart, as this may encourage it to spread to another area.
You should also avoid sharing personal items such as towels, socks, shoes, nail tools or razors that have been in contact with the affected skin.
Is Every Skin Growth Suitable for CryoPen?
No, and this is why the assessment stage is important.
Not every lump or skin growth is a wart. Some conditions can look similar, and you mustn’t attempt to diagnose an unexplained or changing growth yourself.
LA LIPO will not proceed with treatment if there is uncertainty about what the lesion is or whether cosmetic freezing is suitable.
You may need to contact your GP or a dermatologist if the area:
- has changed in size, shape or colour
- bleeds without an obvious reason
- is unusually painful
- has an unclear diagnosis
- looks infected
- continues to return
- is located in an area requiring medical assessment

When Should You Have a Wart Assessed?
Although many warts are harmless, it’s worth having them assessed if:
- they are painful
- they’re growing rapidly
- they bleed regularly
- they interfere with walking or daily activities

You should also obtain medical advice before treating a wart if you have diabetes, reduced sensation, poor circulation, a weakened immune system or another condition that may affect healing.

Pharmacy wart treatments usually need to be applied regularly at home. Depending on the product and the wart, this may continue for several weeks or months.
They can be useful for some people, but they must be used carefully and exactly as instructed. They may also irritate healthy surrounding skin.

How quickly will my wart fall off?
The wart will not usually fall off during the appointment. The treated tissue generally changes gradually over the following days and weeks.
Will I see a result after one session?
You may see a good response after one treatment, particularly with a smaller wart. However, some warts need more than one session.
How long should I wait before deciding whether it worked?
The skin needs time to respond and heal. It may take several weeks before the complete effect can be properly assessed.
Can I exercise after treatment?
This depends on the location of the wart and the activity you are planning. Exercise may cause rubbing, pressure, sweating or irritation around the treated area. Follow the advice provided by your practitioner.
Can I cover the treated area?
Your practitioner will advise whether a dressing is needed. Avoid using tight or irritating coverings unless you have been instructed to do so.
Can I pick the scab off?
No. Leave any blister, crust or scab to separate naturally. Picking it can delay healing and increase the risk of infection or scarring.
What happens if the wart is still there?
Contact your treatment provider once the recommended healing period has passed. The area can then be reviewed and further treatment discussed if appropriate.
Can you guarantee that the wart will not return?
No treatment can guarantee that a wart will never return. A virus causes warts, and recurrence is possible even after the visible tissue has cleared.
